My self-care practice today is dancing! How is dancing used as a practice of self-care? Let me tell you…
There are evidence-based benefits of healing power with dance. It creates a movement in your body that improves muscular strength, endurance, balance, flexibility, and more. The advantages of dancing are also mental and emotional as well. The journey to self-acceptance include factors of body image and self-esteem. When you dance, you are embracing and appreciating your body’s movements. With dance, it also comes a creativity element. I dance just for fun and to relieve stress. But think about the many choreographers out there that have built their art from movement.
The part that I love about dancing is that it’s hard to maintain a frown when dancing. There comes a pure joy that stems from dancing that can help combat anxiety and depression.
As you can see there are a lot of benefits to dance! When I’m having a tough day, I like to turn to dancing because it is a physical movement that releases stress and it also puts me in a more joyful mood to become more creative and back to my authentic self.
If you’ve never tried dancing before as a part of your self-care practices — try it! It can’t hurt. Put on your favorite song and see how your body will move to it. Can you close your eyes and move to the music? How silly do you feel? Good, it’s working. If you are feeling extra confident, post a video of you dancing and tag me in it! We are in this together — let’s dance and keep moving!
